Barrels (or "practice horses") are used for both compulsory and kur practice. The barrel simulates a horse and may be used in lieu of, or in addition to, the horses. Barrels are used to teach basics, practice difficult routin Additionally, barrels can be acquired for serious, individual vaulters, when it is impractical or impossible to own individual vaulting horses.
